The Quinault Nation is conducting an interagency, collaborative watershed analysis of the 34-square-mile Salmon River Watershed on Washington's Pacific Coast to assess human impacts and to help future planning. The Quinault Nation is developing forest, fisheries, and wildlife management plans for the watershed.
The USGS is participating in the Salmon River Watershed Analysis in several ways, including authoring the hydrology chapter in the watershed analysis report. The USGS is also developing a novel technique to estimate peak and low flows for ungaged streams on the basis of brief field work and historical records from nearby rivers.
