WA138 - Water Level Data for Numerical Models - Completed FY1988

Problem - There is a growing demand for ground-water supplies in the State of Washington. Increased pumpage may cause problems of sea-water intrusion in coastal areas. Because of increasing irrigation, ground-water levels are declining over a large part of the Columbia Plateau. Test-drilling information is vital to the numerical models we use to address these problems; it provides data on individual hydrologic units and aquifers. Without such information, we cannot be assured of the technical validity of our ground-water models.

Objectives - Define hydrologic parameters in currently active projects, monitor salt-water intrusion in coastal areas, and prospect for new ground-water supplies at untapped depths or in undeveloped areas.

Approach - Pumping tests will be performed on all productive zones. Water samples will be collected for chemical analysis. Packers or piezometers will be installed to obtain data on individual aquifer zones. Geophysical logs will be run on all test holes and on some nearby wells.
